La Dolce Vita

Sitting in a Roman café while on holiday in the off-season, two friends ordered espressos – the strong, black drops of coffee that the Italians do best. Due to the trials and tribulations that sometimes are a part of traveling, their moods were similar in description to the leaden skies overhead.

Bringing the cup to her lips, one took a sip of the bitter liquid, scrunched up her face and muttered, ‘Questo caffé ha bisogno due zuccheri!’ (This coffee needs two sugars!)

Something about how the comment was delivered set off gales of laughter, easily dissolving any bad tempers, just as the extra sugar dispelled the bitter edge of the coffee.

Like two sugars sweetening coffee, the friendship between two people sweetens life.
